In the beautiful and newly refurbished botanical garden of Hafnarfjörður in the town centre, there are opportunities for individuals, businesses or groups who want to set up an operation and create an experience and an adventure in a unique location. The only condition is that any proposed activities must increase the garden's appeal, interest, and visitor numbers. The City of Hafnarfjörður is seeking to engage with all interested parties about the potential operation of Oddrúnarbaer and the opportunities the garden presents, all year round.

Description of the opportunity

In this 100-year-old pleasure garden of the people of Hafnarfjörður in Hellisgerði, you can find Oddrúnarbær, a small, old and charming house with toilet facilities and catering facilities. Oddrúnarbær is about 20 square metres in size and was built in 1905. There is an outdoor stage by the house, as well as two new greenhouses and spectator stands, which create a beautiful setting in the heart of the garden. A beautiful pond is at the bottom of the garden, featuring the statue 'The Youngest Fisherman'. In the summer, the pond is used as a wading pond and is frozen over for skating on cold winter days. Throughout the garden, there are fun nooks and facilities for rest, climbing and exploration. Hellisgerði is one of Hafnarfjörður's main landmarks and in recent years has firmly established itself in the Christmas traditions of the people of Hafnarfjörður and its friends. During Advent, the garden is transformed into a fairy-tale world of light displays, and thousands of visitors take the opportunity to experience and enjoy it in their own way. During other seasons, the garden is extensively used for outdoor recreation, events, picnics and adventures, and businesses and groups have also used the facilities for a variety of gatherings.

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður is seeking ideas to strengthen and further enhance the social life in Hellisgerði Park, thereby increasing the number of both domestic and international visitors to the park. Each proposal must be accompanied by a statement outlining the proposed activity, its unique selling point in terms of products and/or services, along with details of the background, skills and experience of the interested party.   Particular attention is drawn to the fact that this is a market survey which is in no way binding on either party.

Ideas deadline: 12 August

Ideas for activities, operations and framework are being accepted until 12 August via the email address: menning@hafnarfjordur.is. Further information and a viewing can be requested from the Hafnarfjörður service desk via email: hafnarfjordur@hafnarfjordur.is or telephone: 585-5500.
