A new youth centre for 16-25 year-olds

„We're just opening The Nest by the Stream. I'm absolutely delighted with this new youth centre for the young people of Hafnarfjörður,“ says Svala Eyjólfsdóttir, its new project manager, in Hafnarfjörður Youth, the Fjarðarfréttir newspaper for young people, which was published today. „There's a good atmosphere in the house.“ She says it's exciting to be in the Innovation Centre.

„There are endless possibilities to do whatever comes to mind. We've got a good team here at Hreiðrið and we're feeling motivated for the winter,“ says Svala. Hreiðrið is intended for people aged 16-25.

Cosy with plenty of possibilities

Bryndís Steina Friðgeirsdóttir, director of the Innovation Centre at Lækinn, welcomes the young people to this source of innovation and art in Fjarðarfréttir.

„They are all welcome to this cosy space and can meet others of a similar age. By having The Nest in the Innovation Centre, they can experiment with new hobbies. We have an experimental workshop open for the young people where they can develop their artistic skills. They can get into the tech workshop and try their hand at digital skills,“ she says.

„It is necessary to have a single point of contact, to be based at the telephone company,“ she says.

It is noted that the winter is much anticipated, and Bryndís and Svala say that a new youth council for Hafnarfjörður's young people will be based in the building. Furthermore, Músík og mótor has moved its music section to the third floor.

You can make music and podcasts

„We are also creating a space where everyone can come in and record music and podcasts. Our aim is to be a home for creative thinking, to allow passions to flourish and to connect with people. To harness positive creativity,“ says Bryndís. „You can also just come here to hang out and relax. This is a space for young people to come and create the atmosphere they want.“

But what awaits the young people in The Nest by the Stream?

  • Comfortable sofa and facilities for playing games
  • Pool table, soon darts board
