Residents shape the Hafnarfjörður of the future

Residents of Hafnarfjörður are now invited to submit ideas and proposals on how they would like to see their town in 2035. A consultation portal, which has been opened on the 'Better Hafnarfjörður' website, is part of the development of a comprehensive strategy for the municipality for the next 10-15 years. The project is led by a steering group of representatives from all parties represented on the town council, and preparations and implementation have been underway since around the middle of last year. The consultation portal will be open until Monday, 14 February.

Residents of Hafnarfjörður are now invited to submit ideas and proposals on how they would like to see their town in 2035. Consultation portal, which has been opened on the Better Hafnarfjörður website, is part of shaping a comprehensive strategy for the municipality for the next 10-15 years. The project is led by a steering group of representatives from all parties with seats on the town council, and preparations and implementation have been underway since around the middle of last year. A clear vision developed in wide consultation 

„It is an exciting opportunity for the residents of Hafnarfjörður to envision their town in 2035 and to have a say in making that vision a reality.“ says Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður „What is unique and different about the strategic planning currently taking place in Hafnarfjörður is the creation of strategic plans that deliver measurable short-term objectives and will be used as a precursor to the budgeting process. With this implementation, we are taking a major step towards better linking all of the council's policies and creating a clear vision, developed through extensive dialogue and consultation within the town and on a cross-party basis with councillors.“  

The United Nations' Global Goals and the Convention on the Rights of the Child as a guide in policymaking

In planning for 2035, the United Nations' Global Goals and the Convention on the Rights of the Child are specifically regarded as a guiding light for the vision and overall strategy of Hafnarfjörður in the field of sustainable development. A vision and strategy developed in broad consultation with residents, municipal staff, the business community and other stakeholders in Hafnarfjörður. Residents of Hafnarfjörður and other interested parties have the opportunity to submit their ideas and suggestions through the 'Better Hafnarfjörður' consultation platform until 14 February.
