Hafnarfjörður Car Park Fund

The role of the Hafnarfjörður Car Park Fund is to ensure that residents and visitors to the town can get about in the most reliable and safest way possible, without being disrupted by vehicles that are not parked in accordance with the Highway Code. The Car Park Fund is owned and managed by the City of Hafnarfjörður.

Monitoring of stop signs

Parking attendants will carry out enforcement and issue parking tickets where applicable. To begin with, warning notices will be placed on the windscreens of illegally parked cars to give residents and visitors to the town an opportunity to get used to the changes. Once a level of familiarity and experience has been established, a fine will be imposed.

The service is for the benefit of the town's residents and follows in the footsteps of Kópavogur, Akureyri and Seltjarnarnes, which operate car park funds solely to deal with parking offences.

The Environment and Operations Committee of Hafnarfjörður is responsible for the daily management of the fund and its projects. The municipality's Finance Department handles the collection of fees, processes objections to parking charges and penalty fees, and employs parking attendants.

The imposition of a parking fine is based on the registered owner/keeper as per the vehicle register, and Hafnarfjörður Parking Fund is not permitted to transfer the charge between parties. However, other than the registered owners/occupiers, the charge can be paid at banks, savings banks and via home banking.

A charge is generated in the home banking of the relevant owner/custodian when a fee is applied to the vehicle. The charge can be paid as soon as it is received through the customer's bank, building society or online banking.

  • In online banking The charge can be found under the „unpaid demands or unpaid bills“ section. If someone other than the owner or occupier is paying the fee, they must enter the invoice number of the statement, which is done by selecting „Payments“ and then „Invoice“. Please note that it is not possible to transfer money into the Hafnarfjörður Parking Fund account; the payment slip must be paid.
  • For your information, the „Payee's ID“ in online banking refers to the ID of the person registered for the payment. In this case, it is the ID of the vehicle's owner/keeper, not the person making the payment.
