Ístak builds Hamranesskóli

Hamranesskóli to open next year
A contract for the construction of Hamranesskóli was signed at the Hafnarfjörður town offices last week. Ístak is building the school. The school will be approximately 8,800 square metres.
The school is planned to be commissioned in three phases. The first phase is scheduled for completion in summer 2026, the second a year later, and the third in summer 2028. The contract value is approximately 6 billion króna.
Hamranesskóli will be the twelfth primary school in the town of Hafnarfjörður. It is the tenth run by the town, but there are also independent schools: Barnaskóli Hjallastefnunnar and Nú.

School for one to sixteen-year-olds
Hamranesskóli will be a comprehensive school for children aged 12 months to 16 years. The school will be built on an ambitious philosophy and offers exciting opportunities for innovation in school life. The school will house a nursery and a youth club, as well as a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School. A headteacher is now being sought, to be appointed from November.
The school was put out to tender in a public tender in November. Three contractors took part: Ístak, Eykt and ÞG Verktakar. After the review and opening of the tenders, it was clear that Ístak had the most favourable bid.
The school will be the centre of the neighbourhood. However, the school has facilities for music education, a library for the neighbourhood, a sports hall and good facilities for social activities.
