Víðivellir Nursery School is looking to hire an enthusiastic and ambitious teacher for a temporary supply position until 15th May. Must be able to start as soon as possible.
TheVíðivellir is the first nursery school run by the City of Hafnarfjörður and opened in 1977. Víðivellir is a four-unit nursery school. From the beginning, emphasis has been placed on inclusive nursery education, and the nursery has good facilities and specialist expertise to meet the needs of a diverse group of children. Special emphasis is also placed on work with the nursery's vocabulary programme, sign language, and organised physical activity.
Great emphasis is placed on ensuring that every child can enjoy themselves at their own pace within the group, and that children and their families receive robust and integrated support when the need arises.
Kindergartens in Hafnarfjörður have introduced better opening hours.ma which is based on a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Early Years Educators and the Association of Occupational Therapists have opted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These staff members therefore take reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter break in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and with longer periods off in the summer.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Working with the upbringing and education of nursery school children
- Taking part in the planning of professional work
- Participating in parent collaboration in consultation with the Head of Year
- Operates in accordance with the law and regulations on nurseries, other applicable laws and the main nursery curriculum.
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements
- Teaching licence (attached)
- Experience of working in nurseries is desirable.
- Good communication skills
- Initiative in work and professional ambition
- Independent and organised working methods
- Positivity, solution-orientation and flexibility
- Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum C1 according to ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)

A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Association (Félag leikskólakennara).
