Skarðshlíðarskóli is looking for a dynamic and energetic textiles teacher. to join us in an ambitious school programme. The appointment is from 1 August 2026.
At Skarðshlíðarskóli, we have enthusiastic and fun-loving pupils, a dedicated staff, and a strong parent body. We emphasise a good working atmosphere, team teaching, varied teaching methods, SMT school skills, and ensuring all pupils achieve good results in play and work. Mílan is an integral part of the school's work, which involves pupils and staff going outside daily to walk, jog or run for 15 minutes.

The implementation of UDL (Universal Design for Learning) began in the autumn of 2020. UDL provides students with the opportunity to learn in different ways and to demonstrate their skills in different ways. Students are active and have an influence on their own learning.
Skarðshlíðarskóli is a comprehensive school with pupils in Years 1 to 10. There are currently around 525 pupils at the school. The school building is impressive and the school is well-equipped, with a sports hall, a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School, and a four-department nursery school in the same building. This autumn, a major collaborative project will begin between the nursery, primary and music schools.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Teaches textiles
- Promote the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
- Participate in the development of a new school community in collaboration with the management.
- Works on school-wide skills designed to create a good atmosphere in schools and ensure the safety and welfare of pupils and staff.
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Competency requirements:
- Teaching licence (a licence must accompany the application)
- A solid understanding of the pedagogy of textile teaching
- Proficiency in a variety of teaching methods, curriculum adaptation and integration.
- Interest in working with children and young people
- Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
- Initiative and autonomy in work methods
- Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
- Punctuality and conscientiousness
- Very good knowledge of Icelandic, to a minimum of C1 in accordance with ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)
A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.
