The nursery school Stekkjarás Looking for a special needs teacher or an occupational therapist for a full-time position.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual with experience of working with children. Stekkjarás Nursery School has eight classes and is located in the Áslandshverfið district. The nursery operates according to the Reggio Emilia approach, and its motto is „The child's ideas – the project of the day“. We are looking for an enthusiastic and responsible individual with a passion for the role.
Key responsibilities and duties
- Organises special educational provision for the child/children in collaboration with the department head and the special educational needs coordinator, and guides the nursery staff to participate in the teaching of children who require special educational provision.
- Prepares written individualised education programmes for the child/children receiving special tuition, in consultation with the Head of Department and the Director of Special Education.
- Ensures that individual learning programmes are implemented and reviewed in consultation with the Head of Department and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator.
- Provides children who need special tuition with special assistance and instruction.
- Ensure that a child receiving special education is not isolated, but is part of the group and takes part in the nursery activities.
- Works in close collaboration with the parents/guardians of children receiving special tuition on the unit, and attends meetings and interviews with them.
- Attends parents' meetings held by the nursery school
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements
- Teacher qualification (copy of certificate to be attached to the application) or occupational therapist qualification (copy of certificate to be attached to the application)
- Further education in special education is an advantage.
- Experience in a similar role is an advantage.
- Experience of teamwork is desirable
- Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum C1 according to ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)
- The TEACCH approach advantage
