Since 2003, the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður, on Thorsplani, has captivated both the nation's residents and the tourists who have visited. The Christmas Village will be open every weekend during Advent from 13:00 to 18:00, and this year's atmosphere will be exceptionally warm and cosy.

cosy yet at the same time unassuming. In light of the circumstances and restrictions, there will be no organised programme by the Christmas village this Advent.

The lights on the Cuxhaven Christmas tree were switched on in the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður this morning, in the presence of nursery school children and staff from Hjalli, Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, Christian Stepper, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Iceland, and Gísli Valdimarsson, Chairman of the Hafnarfjörður-Cuxhaven Twinning Association.

cheap and fun Christmas shopping. Hafnarfjörður encourages visitors to take advantage of
during the opening hours of the Christmas village and spread the load on Thorsplan and visit museums, shops, cafés and
restaurants near the village. Santa's helpers come to visit on Saturdays and
Grýla will be wandering around town on Sundays to check if everyone is
not observing social distancing, wearing face masks and diligent about sanitising and
wash hands.
