Fibre-optic cable rollout throughout the town

There has been a great deal of activity on the fibre-optic expansion projects by Míla and Gagnaveitan in Hafnarfjörður over the past few days and weeks. The project areas are large and the work will take a long time. Attached is an overview of some of the neighbourhoods where work is currently underway.  

There has been a great deal of activity on the fibre-optic rollout by Míla and Gagnaveitan in Hafnarfjörður over the past few days and weeks. The companies have obtained permission to carry out works throughout the town, and the works are to be advertised specifically by the companies in the relevant neighbourhoods. Road closures are announced separately if any are to take place. The scope of these projects is large and the duration of the works is usually long. 

Attached is an overview of several neighbourhoods where development is currently underway:

  • From 1 March to 1 May:  Ásland 2, Erluás, Kríuás, Gauksás, Þrastarás and Svöluás

  • From 27 February – 27 April:  Ásland 1, Blikaás, Lóuás and Spóaás

  • From 20 February – 15 May: Coves from the Ring Road to the Reykjanes Peninsula

  • From 13 February – 13 April: The slopes of Setberg towards Úthlíð. Such as Lækjarberg and Lindarberg.

  • From 15 February – 15 November:  The town centre and the lava fields. The area is from Flatahrauni to Lækjargata.

  • From 15 March – 15 November: North and West Bays of Hafnarfjörður. The entire area west of Reykjavíkurveg.

For information – some general points about planning permission

  • The licence holder shall install traffic signs in accordance with the Road Traffic Act and regulations and/or as directed by the Environmental and Planning Services of Hafnarfjörður Municipality.
  • The licence holder ensures that the works do not pose a danger to road users (driving, walking or cycling).
  • Traffic delays are expected to be kept to a minimum and the works are to be completed on schedule.
  • An application for a permit to carry out works must be submitted at least 3 working days before the works are due to start.
  • The permit holder shall return the work area to its original condition within 15 working days of the work's completion, and all reinstatement work shall be carried out by a professional. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the choice of materials and the thickness of the surfacing must be comparable to the original. After this period, the City of Hafnarfjörður reserves the right to restore the area at the applicant's expense.
