Leisure Grants – Amendment
It has been made possible for children to receive a subsidy for sports and leisure activities in other local authorities, regardless of whether the particular activity or discipline is offered in Hafnarfjörður.
As of the New Year, the rules regarding subsidies for participation fees for sports and leisure activities have changed. The option has now been introduced in Hafnarfjörður for children to receive a subsidy for sports and leisure activities in other municipalities, regardless of whether the activity or sport is offered in Hafnarfjörður. The grant is available for children aged six to 16, as before.
The aim of the subsidies is to enable children with their legal residence in Hafnarfjörður to participate in sports and leisure activities regardless of their families' financial circumstances, and to promote sports and other preventative activities in Hafnarfjörður. The subsidy is also intended to counteract the undesirable dropout rate among older age groups of participants. Subsidies apply only to clubs offering organised instruction or training for at least 10 weeks at a time, with a minimum of one session per week. If the participation fee is higher than the Hafnarfjörður subsidy, the club/department will collect the difference from the guardians.
Implementation of reimbursement
The implementation of the subsidy is such that the guardians go into
My pages or the relevant club's website and confirm the member's participation with the relevant club/department electronically. Participation can only be confirmed on My Pages or with the relevant club. When a guardian confirms a child's participation, both the relevant club/section and the City of Hafnarfjörður receive confirmation. Monthly, the City of Hafnarfjörður compiles a list of the number of parental participation confirmations and sends it to the clubs/departments, paying them a subsidy based on the list and in accordance with a separate agreement with the respective sports club/department. Associations not affiliated with the NORA system and
My pages Provide a receipt for the payment of training fees. Guardians/participants must bring the receipt for the payment of training fees to the Hafnarfjörður Service Centre, along with the invoice, and apply for the subsidy there.
Hafnarfjörður pays a monthly grant with the aim of maintaining regular participation and activity throughout the year. Furthermore, the higher payments for older children encourage teenagers to continue with their leisure activities. Younger children receive 1,700 kr per month and older children 2,550 kr.
