Let's join hands and clean up after the New Year.
A great deal of rubbish is generated over the New Year period when large quantities of fireworks are set off. Fireworks bring joy with their beautiful colours and mark a special moment of transition. The old year is seen out and the new year is welcomed with open arms. These same fireworks are less pleasant when sooty remains are scattered across the town after New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Happy New Year, dear residents of Hafnarfjörður!
There are quite a lot of empty firework boxes, sparklers and sticks lying scattered around the town at the start of the year, and we appeal to residents and businesses in the area to be mindful of their local surroundings and tidy up after the New Year celebrations.
Let's join hands and clean up after the New Year.
As with so much else, many hands make light work. We encourage residents of Hafnarfjörður and firework buyers to set a good example, clean up after themselves and dispose of any rubbish. Firework rubbish should be taken to the Sorpu collection centres, which opened on 2 January. The public are warned not to throw firework permits into the safety bins.
If as many people as possible take the time in the new year to beautify their local area, then together we can get the town back in order and keep it clean and tidy.
Let's help each other clean our town!
