Yes, The Capital Region's outdoor website, Out and About, is now celebrating one year since its launch in February 2025. Its aim is to gather information about walking routes, cycling routes and outdoor areas in the capital region in one place, in both Icelandic and English.
At launch, there were 30 walking and cycling routes on the website, but there are now 64, covering the entire capital region. Each route is accompanied by useful information, such as its difficulty level, length and estimated walking or cycling time, and users can also see their own location on a map and follow the route in real time.
The website features a powerful search engine where you can filter by local authority, facilities, services and accessibility. The site also provides descriptions of 36 outdoor recreation areas, their locations and what they have to offer. Further development and promotion of the website is planned for 2026.
The creation of the website was a key project of the Capital Region's strategic plan and supports its goals of a healthy environment and a healthy lifestyle. The aim of 'Out All Over' is to make the region's outdoor recreational opportunities more visible, thereby encouraging increased physical activity, greater resident satisfaction and better use of green spaces.
The website is a joint project of the Association of Local Authorities in the Capital Region and the Capital Region Marketing Office.
