Lucky charms on lampposts
Lucky residents of Hafnarfjörður woke up to the joyful sight of red ribbons waiting for them on lampposts on their way to work and school. The stunt can be traced back to the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður, as the lucky numbers on some of the ribbons contain a surprise treat that can be collected at the Christmas Village on Thorsplani during its opening hours.

At midnight tonight, a group from the City of Hafnarfjörður went out and put red ribbons on numerous lampposts in the town. The ribbons carry a message to the town's residents, along with the town's logo and a lucky number, but behind some of the numbers is a surprise gift that can be collected at the Hafnarfjörður Christmas Village. Last year, a team from the council decorated nearly 1,000 cars with beautiful Christmas baubles, some of which contained lucky numbers and a generous gift. The initiative was a great success and was very well received by residents and visitors to the municipality. It was decided to repeat the event this year and kick off the Advent season with a nice surprise. The Christmas village will be open this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and thereafter on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. throughout Advent. The Christmas lights on the Cuxhaven tree in Flensburg Harbour and the tree on Thorsplan will be switched on this weekend, and Santa Clauses and elves can also be seen strolling along Strandgade to the great delight of the children and their families. Merry, singing vendors in beautifully decorated Christmas houses will warmly welcome visitors with a wide variety of gift items, design, and Icelandic handicrafts.
