Magnús Kjartansson gets his fourth heartstone
The occasion was a festive one, but the atmosphere was equally light-hearted when musician Magnús Kjartansson received his heartstone at the Bæjarbíó. The stone is the fourth to be placed in the pavement in front of this unique music venue in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.
A cornerstone in the heart of Hafnarfjörður!
It was truly a festive occasion when the musician Magnús Kjartansson received his heartstone at the Bæjarbíó. The stone is the fourth to be set in the pavement in front of this unique music venue in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.
Although Magnús is a born and bred Keflavíkur man, he has a lot of ties to Hafnarfjörður too. He lived in Hafnarfjörður for 33 years before he and his wife moved to the Grímsnes. They have lived there for over a decade.
Magnús, a diligent and acclaimed musician
Magnús was involved in the recording, arranging, playing and producing of many of the most famous songs of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s – precisely during the time he and his family lived in Hafnarfjörður. These include Brimkló, the HLH Group, Halla and Ladda, Brunaliðið, Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, Geirmundur Valtýsson, as well as numerous other projects that were mostly recorded at Hljóðrita in Hafnarfjörður. He also composed many of his most famous songs during the time he lived in the bay.
Magnus the Fourth, who is carved in stone
Magnús Kjartansson is the fourth artist to receive the Heartstone in the heart of Hafnarfjörður. There are already heartstones in honour of Björgvin Halldórsson, musician and Hafnarfjörður's 2018 Artist in Residence, Þórhallur Sigurðsson, Ladda the actor and musician, and a heartstone in memory of the writer Guðrún Helgadóttir.
To mark this honour, Magnús Kjartansson, together with Vintage Caravan and his own band, is holding a concert at the Bæjarbíó on 21 September.
We wholeheartedly congratulate Magnus!
