Maximus concerts in Hafnarfjörður and Harpa

The Hafnarfjörður Music School Symphony Orchestra, together with the Garðabær Music School String Orchestra, will hold a series of three concerts of the musical adventure about the musical mouse, Maximus Musicaeus, next weekend.

The Hafnarfjörður Music School Symphony Orchestra, together with the Garðabær Music School String Orchestra, will hold a series of three concerts featuring the musical adventure of the musical mouse, Maximus Musicus, in the Great Halls of the Hafnarfjörður Music School and at the Harpa concert hall next weekend.gi. The story “Maximus Musicus Tritters to the Music School” will be performed with a narrator, pictures and musical performances with around 50 instrumentalists. The programme will include the orchestral works In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg, a movement from the Toy Symphony and, of course, Max's Song, while Maxímús Músíkús himself will pay a visit and dance to his song.

Five solo pieces are also on the programme, featuring young soloists on wind and string instruments performing with the orchestra. They will play, among other pieces, the folk songs 'Á Sprengisandi' and 'Krummavísur', as well as works by Dvorák and Gossec. The orchestra is conducted by Ármann Helgason, who has received strong support and assistance from string teachers from Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær for the project.

There is therefore a great celebration ahead, as the school is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary, and around 400 primary school children in Hafnarfjörður are being invited to two concerts in the Hásalar at the Hafnarfjörður School of Music. The concert at Harpa will then be part of Harpa's free Family Hour in the Kaldalónsálur on Sunday, 27th October at 11:30 a.m., and everyone is welcome, subject to available capacity.
