Record participation in the town hall staff golf tournament

The Hafnarfjörður municipal staff golf tournament was held in fine weather recently. Nearly 60 employees from various council departments signed up to play and gave it their all. It was a traditional stableford competition with handicap and a stroke play final for the golf champion. Nearest the pin prizes were awarded on the 4th, 6th, 10th and 16th holes of Hvaleyrarvöllur, and on the 6th hole of Sveinskotsvöllur. 

For beginners as well as more advanced learners

Competitions were held on both the 18-hole and 9-hole courses, and beginners as well as keen fans of the sport were encouraged to take part. It was planned to offer beginners' coaching sessions during the tournament, but in light of the social distancing and lockdown restrictions, both the coaching and the format of the prize-giving had to be cancelled.

The results of the golf tournament were as follows:

1. Hlöðver Sigurðsson with 21 points
2. Hreiðar Gíslason with 20 points
3. Þórunn Erla Stefánsdóttir has 17 points

Hvaleyrarvöllur – Stableford competition with handicap

1. Heiðrún Jóhannesdóttir with 42 points
2. Lovísa Traustadóttir with 38 points
3. Bergþór Snær Gunnarsson scored 38 points

Hvaleyrarvöllur – Stroke play

1. Ágúst Ársælsson on 72 strokes
2. Halldór Ingólfsson on 74 strokes
3. Heiðrún Jóhannsdóttir on 86 strokes

Nearness prizes were awarded on the par-3 holes at Hvaleyrarvellir.

• Hole 6 – Garðar Guðmundsson 7.3 m
• Hole 10 – Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir 3.0 m
• Hole 15 – Ágúst Ársælsson 0.92 m

It's safe to say that anticipation for the 2021 staff golf tournament is already building, and we've heard that even more people are planning to take part. The sport of golf is truly on the rise, and it certainly helps that Hafnarfjörður is home to one of the country's finest golf courses.
