    • 0905143 – Motion on working methods in the Environment Committee of the Local Agenda 21

The representative of the Independence Party on the committee submits the following statement:

Memorandum on working practices in the Environmental Committee of the Local Agenda 21

In view of the circumstances, the undersigned representative of the Independence Party on the Environment Committee requests that the following comment on working practices be entered into the record.

<SPAN lang=IS style=“mso-ansi-language: At the town council meeting on 3rd March, the undersigned was elected as a main member of the Environment Committee / Agenda 21 in place of Bergs Ólafsson. The following day, Wednesday 4th March, a meeting of the Environment Committee / Agenda 21 was held, to which I was not invited, and therefore no one attended in my place. It was implied that it was not the duty of the chair or the committee clerk to notify me, but that my predecessor should have taken care of it. This is absurd.

<SPAN lang=IS style=“mso-ansi-language: I was then formally invited to the next meeting, on 18 March 2009. After the meeting ended, it emerged that others on the committee, together with a member of staff, intended to attend the Environmental Conference, the national conference on Agenda 21, in Stykkishólmur the following weekend, 20–21 March 2009. When information was requested about this conference, the response was that it was too late to confirm participation. Further information about this conference was then requested, but it was reiterated that funds had already been allocated to this project and that any request to attend the conference came too late.

This was not acceptable, as I obtained information about the conference myself from the coordinator of Agenda 21, and it turned out that the registration deadline was the 12th. March, or 9 days after the undersigned was appointed to the committee, and therefore there would have been ample time to register my participation along with the other representatives of the City of Hafnarfjörður.

<SPAN lang=IS style=“mso-ansi-language: I make a note of these working methods but hope for a good collaboration in the committee from now on.

The representative also requests a breakdown of the costs for the conference in Stykkishólmur.
