At its meeting on 20 April, the town council approved the following motion:$line$“The Hafnarfjörður Town Council expresses its disappointment with the drastic cuts that have been announced in the operation of the Sólvang nursing home and which, unless reversed, will lead to a significant reduction in the quality of life for those residents who live there and currently enjoy care and security. The town council calls on the Minister for Social Affairs to reconsider their decision regarding Sólvangur and to begin active consultation with the people of Hafnarfjörður on the future provision of healthcare services in the municipality. To that end, the town council instructs the family council to establish a working group, to be composed of 3 representatives from the family council and 2 representatives from the council for the elderly. The working group will be tasked with assessing the state of the town's elderly care services in light of the strategic framework laid in 2006 through the collaboration between the national government and the town, and which has been followed since. It will seek cooperation with the Ministry of Welfare in this work. The group shall also discuss the situation at Sólvangur, the changes taking place there in services, and make proposals on how to safeguard the services and jobs currently available there. The aim is for the group to submit its findings and an action plan to the Family Council no later than 22 June.“
