The Education Committee thanks the representatives from the youth council for their attendance and for the proposals that have come from the council. • Parent-teacher collaboration

A report and proposal from the working group on home-school partnership were presented. The proposals are as follows.

The partnership between homes and schools must be strengthened, and this is best achieved through strong collaboration between the parents' association and the school.

The work of parents' associations should not be about obligations and fundraising, but about projects that nurture the children and their time at school.

Headteachers are responsible for ensuring that parents' associations receive support and encouragement.

The education and public health department shall have a member of staff who acts as a liaison with parents' associations and supports their activities.

The working group proposes that the parties to this matter, namely the Hafnarfjörður Education Board, the Hafnarfjörður Parents' Council, headteachers and the parents' associations of the primary schools in Hafnarfjörður, approve the Guidelines for Home-School Cooperation in Hafnarfjörður.

The Education Council thanks the working group for its work and, for its part, approves the recommendations set out therein.

The representative of the primary school teachers submits the following reservation to item 4. In the section on primary education there is proposal No. 5 concerning the role of the class teacher. It proposes that the class teacher take part in activities with pupils and parents outside the normal teaching hours.
All a tutor's time is spent on preparation and processing, teamwork. Has the tutor's job become more than 100%?
The representative of the primary school teachers wishes to state in this note that it is not possible to keep adding to the duties of a form tutor who is already heavily burdened with work, unless something else is taken out of their role.

    • Better working hours in nurseries

      A memorandum was presented.

The majority of the Education Committee and Viðreisn thank the development officer for the summary and welcome that the measures taken are proving successful in increasing the proportion of professional staff in Hafnarfjörður's nurseries. It is anticipated that the significant human resources already working in Hafnarfjörður's nurseries will be joined by more teachers.

    • 2305023 – The Social Democrats' question on nursery places

Representatives of the Social Democratic Party in Hafnarfjörður submit the following questions:

      2. How many children are on the waiting list for a nursery place in Hafnarfjörður?
