Find the right hobby at the Hobby Fair

Yes, what do our children want? Often, you have to search for a long time for the best pastime – the one that suits them. Now they have the opportunity to discover many of them all in one place.

The aim of the first Leisure Fair in Hafnarfjörður is to make things easier for them. The Leisure Fair will be held in the sports hall on Strandgata on Saturday 29 August from 10 am to 2 pm.

Fifteen clubs are presenting their activities. Often, you don't need much equipment to be able to take part. Today, we'll introduce four of them.

• The Gaflo School At Gaflós School, children and young people get to experience drama and improvisation in a creative and fun environment. The emphasis is on enjoyment and training in the basic techniques of drama, rather than the final outcome. Around 120 students attend the school. Registration takes place at Gaflar Theatre and the only necessary equipment is a good mood.
• Hafnarfjörður Music School The Hafnarfjörður Music School offers a diverse music programme for around 600 students. You can learn to play a wide variety of instruments, pursue either classical or rhythmical music studies, and take part in a vibrant orchestra programme. Students can hire most instruments from the school, with certain exceptions. Information about courses and applications is available on tonhaf.is and by telephone on 555 2704.
• Sambo 80 Sambo is a self-defence and grappling sport for both beginners and advanced practitioners. Training sessions focus on discipline, strength, stamina, flexibility and coordination, under the guidance of highly experienced and internationally qualified coaches. Around 45 members train at Sambo 80. You can book a trial session by email at helga@1312.is. To start with, sports trousers and a T-shirt are enough.
• The Hraunbúar Scout Group Scouting is an adventurous and varied activity that is open to everyone. Children and young people learn from experience, work together and tackle exciting challenges in the outdoors. In doing so, they develop self-confidence, independence, responsibility and leadership skills, among other things. There are around 190 members in Hraunbúar. Registration takes place at Abler and no special equipment is needed to get started, just warm clothes suitable for the weather.
