National Day celebrated in Hafnarfjörður

The National Day begins in Hafnarfjörður at the first cock crow with a flag-hoisting ceremony on the Rock and throughout the town. Anyone interested can take part in a parade which starts at Hraunbyrgi at 1 p.m. and ends at the Menntasetrið by the stream, where the Hafnarfjörður Brass Band will play a few tunes.

Entertainment at four venues

Thorsplan has for years been the main festival site for National Day in Hafnarfjörður. This year, the event will take place at the Græna Húsið.

In 2021, Friðrik Dór will be taking over two venues with GDRN, and the disco Dísa will
keeping up the fun, Vikings will be roaming Víðistaðatún and the scouts are offering in
play, a climbing wall and canoeing. An open house will be held, among other places, at the Sports Hall at
Strandgata, Hafnarfjarðarbibliotekið, Hafnarborg and the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum.
Unexpected events will then be on offer around town. The 2021 Mountain Maiden of Hafnarfjörður and
Hafnarfjörður's 2020 Artist in Residence, Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir, will recite a poem.
