On the first of May, While the weather was changing and there was a light dusting of snow, the City of Hafnarfjörður formally opened a new barbecue hut in Víðistaðatún, and town councillors served sausages to visitors and passers-by after the Víðavangshlaupið, which took place in the early hours on the first morning of summer. Plans are underway to continue making Víðistaðatún even more enjoyable than it is now, and the next project will focus on increasing the number of play equipment and benches in the area.

In 2015, a working group on the future use of Víðistaðatún submitted recommendations for measures and developments aimed at creating more life on the lawn and encouraging residents to make better use of it and its facilities. Work has been underway on the implementation and preparation to put the group's ideas into practice. For the past two years, the Environmental and Planning Services of the City of Hafnarfjörður have been restoring the stonework around the pond and putting it in good order.  Last year, work began on designing a new barbecue hut a short distance from the pond, which is accessible to everyone, allowing individuals, families and groups to use the facility.
