New headteacher of Hvaleyrarskóli
Kristinn Guðlaugsson has been appointed head teacher of Hvaleyrarskóli in Hafnarfjörður, with effect from 1 August 2015.
Kristinn Guðlaugsson has been appointed head teacher of Hvaleyrarskóli in Hafnarfjörður, with effect from 1 August 2015. Kristinn was born in Hafnarfjörður in 1968 and attended Öldutúnsskóli, later obtaining his school-leaving certificate from Flensborgarskóli. He qualified as a PE teacher from Laugarvatn and completed further training at the Norwegian University of Sport and Physical Education in 1994. In 2000, Kristinn obtained a diploma in Computer and Information Technology from KHÍ, and in 2009 he completed a course in Human Resources Management at the University of Iceland's Centre for Continuing Education. In the autumn of 2014, he began a Master's programme in Educational Management at the Faculty of Education, University of Iceland, and is currently working on his thesis for the programme.
Kristinn has worked as a teacher at Álftanesskóli since 1990 and has been the head of the 1st-6th grade department, as well as teaching computer and information technology, since 2008. Kristinn has been heavily involved in community affairs and has served on the municipal council, as well as on various boards and committees for the municipality of Álftanes.
The outgoing head teacher is Helgi Arnarson, who has been the head teacher of Hvaleyrarskóli for the past 9 years, but he is now taking up the position of Director of the Education Department in Reykjanesbær.
