New neighbourhood park at Engjavelli
Work on a new neighbourhood park at Engjavellir will begin in August. The plan is to improve the area around the basketball court north of Hraunvallar School. Play equipment will be added, hedges planted and beautiful planting will be installed. All of the area's surfacing will be resurfaced by the end of summer 2025, and two new, large pieces of play equipment will be installed.

Ideas involving a static lava field combined with communal areas
An open public meeting about the greening of Vallar was held at Hraunvallar School in the spring, where ideas for green spaces, neighbourhood gardens and footpaths in the area were reviewed. Landslag Arkitektar have developed good ideas which are based, in part, on suggestions from the neighbourhood's residents. The proposals emphasise allowing the untouched lava fields that characterise the beautiful Vallahverfi area to be enjoyed, while incorporating walking paths, sledge runs, and slides, as well as areas where one can settle down in a large hammock with a book in hand.
Yes, the fields get greener with each passing year.
