These days, the older containers at the town's neighbourhood collection points are being replaced in cooperation with other municipalities in the capital region and Sorpa.
In Hafnarfjörður, there are neighbourhood bins in seven locations.

the town's neighbourhood centres in cooperation with other local authorities in the capital region
and Sorpu. At neighbourhood stations, there are containers for paper, plastic and glass, as well as clothes containers from RKÍ and bottle containers from the Scouts at some of them. In February 2016, glass collection began at 37 neighbourhood stations in the capital region.
