In recent terms, the council's leisure grant has been increased, and the total support from the City of Hafnarfjörður for the leisure activities of children and young people has never been higher than it is now.  The rules for using the leisure grant have been relaxed and the age limits raised, so for example, an 18-year-old resident can use the grant for a gym membership. In 2015, the leisure grant was linked to each activity. From November 2016, 17-year-olds could also receive the grant, and from January 2018, the age limit was raised to 18. In September 2019, the grant was increased from kr 4,000 to kr 4,500 per month.
