For years, the bonfire has been a joint project between the Haukarnir group and the City of Hafnarfjörður. Now, circumstances at Ásvellir have changed, with extensive development underway and about to begin in the area, and Ásvellir is therefore no longer considered a suitable location for the New Year's Eve bonfire.
