There will be no hot water in all of Hafnarfjörður for over 24 hours.
Hafnarfjörður has grown and prospered in recent years, and the municipality's future plans are ambitious. Such growth entails extensive utility works, and one such project has been underway since November last year at Álfaskeið to Lækjargata, which most residents will no doubt have noticed. The project is progressing well and is now entering its final phase. The work is scheduled to be completed in the autumn.
The water companies have been sending out emails to residents with registered meters, informing them that there will be no hot water for over 24 hours throughout all of Hafnarfjörður in end of August, when the new pipe is being connected. It is not possible to say an exact date at this time, but they will send residents another letter when an exact date is available so that arrangements can be made, if any are needed. The utility companies will be in consultation with residents and local businesses to ensure good communication regarding the matter.
The utility company has scheduled the closure for a time of low hot water usage. Understandably, it may be inconvenient for many to be without hot water for over 24 hours, but unfortunately, this is unavoidable when it comes to a project of this scale. Veitur is renewing the main heat distribution pipes to increase capacity and meet the increased demand in the town due to the growth in housing, with the aim of ensuring all residents of Hafnarfjörður have hot water for decades to come.
