Today, 6th February, is Nursery School Day and to mark the occasion, nursery activities in the town have a festive feel.
Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir visited Hörðuvellir, the town's oldest nursery school, this morning, but its history dates back to 1935 when the women's trade union Framtíðin began its activities at Hörðuvellir. The mayor took part in a singing session for the occasion and visited all four of the nursery's departments. The children were very enthusiastic about their guest, but some had told their parents about the „CEO“ was coming to visit, but others preferred to call her „mayor“, like Mayor Blíða in Adventure Bay, whom many clearly recognise from the television programme The Paw Patrol.
In Hafnarfjörður, there are seventeen nurseries and throughout the town, activities are held for the occasion. At Álfasteinn, for example, parents were invited to breakfast, In Stekkjarási, an open materials station is being offered over the next few days where you can stop by and create something from reusable materials, and in Smáralundi, it so happens that the nursery is celebrating its 35th anniversary today, and to mark the occasion, a meditation session will be offered for parents and guests.
As it happens, today is a nursery headteachers' meeting, and Jenný, the nursery development officer, was baking waffles when the photographer was drawn in by the smell at the start of the meeting. Congratulations on Nursery Day, nursery staff, children and parents!
