Ongoing contract with the Gaflar Theatre

Special emphasis on theatre activities for young people and young audiences

Hafnarfjörður municipality and The Fork Theatre have entered into a further three-year agreement for the operation of a professional theatre in Hafnarfjörður, with the aim of enhancing the cultural life of the town and fostering the interest of its residents in the performing arts and other art forms connected with the stage. The contribution from the City of Hafnarfjörður is in the form of a direct grant.

The Fork Theatre takes on the responsibility of maintaining a diverse range of theatrical activities on behalf of the theatre company and organising regular performances, and is also authorised to seek collaboration with amateur and professional theatre companies. The Gaflar Theatre places a special emphasis on theatre activities for young people and young audiences in its work. Since its inception, the theatre has placed great emphasis on teaching theatre to children and young people, in collaboration with the primary schools of Hafnarfjörður and through its own independent courses.about.

A number of new Icelandic plays

The Fork Theatre was founded in 2010 and is based on Víkingastræti in Hafnarfjörður. The auditorium seats 220 people and the theatre has established itself as an important part of the cultural life of Hafnarfjörður. In recent years, the Gaflar Theatre has staged numerous new Icelandic plays that have received well-deserved attention, drawing audiences in their thousands. In addition, national and international theatre companies, dance companies and school plays have also been featured at the venue with numerous performances.
