The Returning Officer has opened online petition collection in Hafnarfjörður for local council candidacies. The collection is open until 10 April at 12:00.
The establishment of a petition for the local council takes place on Ísland.is.
It is recommended that candidates set up a fundraiser for their campaign; their name and date of birth will be displayed as the fundraiser's creator.
It is also permitted to collect references on paper, but it is recommended that they are entered into the electronic reference system before the originals are submitted with the nomination.

Each nomination list shall be accompanied by:
- Confirmation of the registered name and list symbol of a political party.
- A declaration from all those on the list that they have permitted their names to be placed on it, signed in their own hand or with a valid electronic signature.
- The names of two representatives.
- List of endorsers – a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 160 voters in Hafnarfjörður.
The Returning Officer has enabled the online collection of endorsements on Ísland.is and encourages candidates to use this option. Further information about the online collection of endorsements can be found at election.is.
If endorsements are collected on paper, the returning officer shall request that the lists of endorsements are also submitted in a digital format as an Excel file.

On the web election.is is to find the notice of candidacy and agents for the electoral list, along with the collection of nominations, should a candidate intend to collect nominations on paper.
The deadline for candidates for the municipal elections in Hafnarfjörður, which will take place on Saturday Expires on 16 May 2026 Friday, 10th April, at 12:00.
The Returning Officer will on that day have his office at Hafnarfjörður Town Council Chamber, Strandgata 6, 2nd floor. Height from 10:00 – 12:00 and receive nomination papers.
The Returning Officer will hold a meeting at the same place. Saturday, 11th April, at 12:00, to decide on the candidates and the electoral list. in the presence of representatives of the electoral lists.
