The aim is to link strategy, actions and objectives to the allocation of funds.
A new overarching strategy is designed to simplify and reduce policies in individual policy areas, and to prioritise annual priorities and actions. At the same time, the new strategy involves a holistic approach to the implementation of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. A single, clear vision for the municipality is supported by nine key objectives in areas that often cross departmental boundaries. The key objectives are: well-being for residents, physical activity and health, a thriving economy, vibrant communities, an environmentally friendly society, a vibrant cultural life, education for all, meaningful participation and efficient services. Each key objective provides a foundation for the selection of specific priorities for several years at a time, thereby contributing to long-term improvements and positive changes.
The overall strategy is built around nine main objectives which are linked to the United Nations' Global Goals.
Ambitious work by a steering group, which was appointed with representatives from all parties, and extensive consultation for residents, businesses, staff and other stakeholders, is the formulation of 43 priorities for Hafnarfjörður, and the next stage is further work on setting objectives and developing short-term action plans. Action plans are being developed as a precursor to the budgeting process, with the aim of more closely linking strategy, actions and objectives to the allocation of funds.
