Helgafell
Helgafell is a 340-metre-high basalt mountain a short distance from Kaldársel, south-east of Hafnarfjörður. The mountain is popular mountain hiking trail and a relatively easy ascent from the north-east, although it is otherwise craggy and steep.
View
There is a good view from the mountain over the northern part of the Reykjanes Peninsula and out to the Faxaflói Bay. West of Helgafell is Gullkistugjá, and a little further south is an unburnt grassy mound. Skúlatún is halfway between Helgafell and Lönguhlíðar. North of it are the Valahnúkar, where three petrified Vals sit atop the mounds, watching over all who pass by.
Contribution
To get to Helgafell, you need to drive towards Kaldárseli through the horse stables above Hafnarfjörður. A new and splendid car park is about 500 metres from the old one, so everyone can find a good spot. In the mountain, you can find a beautiful lava arch and it is also possible to to walk through there.
