Stream
The River Straumur probably takes its name from the sea currents at Straumshólmi or from the underground river that flows there to the sea from Kaldárbotnar. Beautiful Walking route is about the area.
The surrounding area Stream It is called Hraun. Tidal currents can be found in the freshwater pools in the lava field, which are unique natural phenomena. There were about 12 farms and cottages there around the turn of the last century, all of which have since fallen into ruin. The house Straumur is visible from the Reykjanesbraut at Straumsvík. It was built around 1927 by Bjarni Bjarndal, a headmaster who ran a farm there, but the house was designed by the state architect, Guðjón Samúelsson.
Streymur has been a farmstead since ancient times and was royal land for centuries. In 1948, the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður bought part of the Streymur estate, and the farm itself in 1986. In 2018, Streymur was sold and is now privately owned.
