Hafnarfjörður is advertising the position of Planning Officer, which is now open for applications. The Planning Officer manages the day-to-day operations of the planning department and ensures that professional working practices are upheld in all its work. The role involves participating in strategy development and providing leadership in the development and implementation of innovations and new priorities within the department, ensuring it is at the forefront of service delivery to users and in compliance with applicable processes and regulations.
The Planning Officer shall ensure that the activities are in accordance with laws and regulations, the current financial plan, established objectives, and the decisions of the Town Council and of the relevant committees and boards. We are looking for a driven individual with the ambition and drive to continue developing the role and the council's planning matters.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Overseeing planning matters in Hafnarfjörður
- Responsible for implementing the council's policy in areas under the remit of the Planning Officer.
- Issuing of operating licences
- Implementation of planning matters and advising, for example, residents, elected representatives, designers and contractors on planning issues.
- Preparation and follow-up of meetings of the councils' committees regarding planning matters
- Collaboration with partners outside and within the public sector who work on projects in the field of planning.
- Other duties as described in the job description
Educational and competency requirements:
- A qualified planner or comparable education and specialisation in the field of planning, in accordance with Article 7 of the Planning Act No. 123/2010.
- A Master's degree that is useful in the workplace
- Knowledge and experience in the field of planning and construction, and extensive professional experience in the preparation of planning schemes.
- Extensive management and personnel experience
- Experience in public administration
- Experience in project management and project administration
- Good knowledge of planning law
- Good computer skills and proficiency in key organisational software.
- Service-mindedness, flexibility and excellent interpersonal skills
- Good command of Icelandic and the ability to convey information

Salary is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the relevant trade union, based on the published job evaluation for the position.
