Hafnarfjörður has in recent years placed great emphasis on digital development in its operations and services. This is an exciting role where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to further develop the services of a leading municipality for the modern era, applying digital transformation to both internal and external services.

We are looking for an ambitious and progressive manager to lead the Service and Development Department for the City of Hafnarfjörður. The department is one of the three support departments of the municipality and is responsible for digital development, information technology, and e-government. The Service and Development Department also includes the customer service centre, communications, cultural affairs, tourism, and the municipality's museums. The department's work aims to ensure that services, information, and experiences are based on the needs and wishes of users, for example by utilising digital solutions. The Head of Department reports directly to the Mayor. The department employs around 45 staff members. The Head of Department is responsible for the department's operations and management, as well as the development of digital services.

Key tasks:

  • Strategy for service delivery and digital development
  • Implementation of service development and user-centred design
  • Development and strengthening of digital service channels and solutions
  • Day-to-day management and operation, organisation and supervision of the department's activities.
  • Collaboration with other areas of the council

Competency requirements:

  • University degree that is useful in the job
  • Further education that is useful in the job
  • Proven experience in management and personnel management
  • Solid experience in service management and setting service objectives.
  • Experience of digital transformation and knowledge of digital solutions
  • A successful track record in change management and the ability to persuade others to take positive action.
  • Experience of collaboration and managing improvement work across different departments.
  • Knowledge and insight into communication and cultural matters
  • Leadership skills and an eye for opportunities
  • Vision, ambition, initiative and communication skills
  • Good command of Icelandic, both spoken and written.
