Grants
Council grants
The Town Council awards grants to charities, businesses and individuals for activities and services twice a year (by 1 May and 1 December). Applications are invited on the website in good time. Further information can be found in Regulations on the allocation of grants by the Town Council.
Cultural and Tourism Board's Event and Project Grants
The Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfjörður awards grants for cultural activities and the promotion of the town's cultural life twice a year (by 1 March and 1 October). Applications are invited on the website in good time.
The aim is to support cultural activities and to empower individuals and organisations to create art and culture. Applicants or events must be connected to Hafnarfjörður in some way. Travel, study or operations are not funded.
The Culture and Tourism Committee assesses applications based on the objectives of the projects and how they will be used to promote a diverse cultural life, for the benefit of the town's residents and Hafnarfjörður artists. Consideration is given to the feasibility of the projects, the cost estimate, as well as the timescale and work plan. A partnership agreement can be applied for in respect of longer-term or recurring projects for a period of up to three years. The Fund of Friðrik Bjarnason and Guðlaug Pétursdóttir
The fund's purpose is to promote the musical life of Hafnarfjörður and to support students and scholars in music. The couple, Friðrik Bjarnason and Guðlaug Pétursdóttir, bequeathed a large part of their estate to the City of Hafnarfjörður. They stipulated that books and items should be preserved in the library and that a fund should be established to „promote the musical life of Hafnarfjörður in whatever way is considered best at the time, but especially to promote choral singing in the town“. and „to support students in musical studies and music scholars“.

Sports and Leisure Committee Grants and Anniversary Gifts

IBAH Fund for Achievers
Performance grants are awarded for European Championships for club and national teams, World Championships, the Olympic Games, and travel grants for competition trips abroad. The ÍBH Elite Athlete Fund was established by the board of the Hafnarfjörður Sports Association and the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður in January 1988 with an initial contribution from each party. Reimbursement of property tax for non-profit organisations
The Hafnarfjörður Town Council provides grants towards the payment of property tax for properties where the activities of youth, cultural and humanitarian organisations take place. To be eligible for a grant, clubs and associations must meet the requirements. rule on grants for the payment of property tax for associations and non-profit organisations.
Organisations that meet the criteria and have previously received the grant do not need to apply again if it is in the annual budget.
Grants for the educational costs and purchase of tools and equipment for disabled people
Disabled people can apply to the City of Hafnarfjörður for a grant towards the cost of education that is not covered by other legislation. The course must have value as training or rehabilitation.
People with disabilities, aged 18 and over, can also apply for a grant for the purchase of tools and equipment for home-based work or self-employment. The activity must have a value as social training or rehabilitation aimed at enabling people with disabilities to create their own employment.
House Preservation Grants
The role of the Hafnarfjörður Building Preservation Fund is to promote the preservation and maintenance of older buildings in the town and to provide grants for maintenance and renovation. The fund also provides grants for the maintenance and preservation of other structures in the town that have cultural, historical or artistic value. Any works must then be in keeping with the building's original architectural style and the principles of conservation.

Grants for audio production
The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður provides grants for measures on the windows of houses on busy roads. Grants are awarded for the improvement of window sound insulation on the sides of a house where the noise level is calculated to be 65 dB(A) or higher. Priority is given to those living in the worst conditions.
The grant is applied for on Our pages online. Applicants must describe the proposed measures and the Environmental and Planning Service assesses whether they are sufficient.
Children's leisure grants
Children aged 6–18 receive a monthly grant of 4,500 kr. towards participation fees for sports and leisure activities.
Objective Leisure grant is making it possible for children in Hafnarfjörður to take part, regardless of their financial circumstances. The town wants to promote sports activities and other preventative work, as well as tackle the drop-out rate among older age groups.
Leisure grants for older people
Older residents In Hafnarfjörður, people should be able to improve their health and fitness through sports and leisure activities, regardless of their financial circumstances.
The City of Hafnarfjörður subsidises the sports and leisure activities of residents aged 67 and over. The subsidy is 4,000 kr. per participant per month, or up to 48,000 kr. in total per year.
