Municipal Council

The Hafnarfjörður Town Council consists of 11 councillors and an equal number of deputies. The councillors are elected by the residents of Hafnarfjörður for a four-year term in democratic elections.

Representatives are elected by proportional representation in accordance with Act on local elections No. 5/1998. The town council governs the town in accordance with the conditions Municipal Government Act No. 138/2011, By-law on the administration of the Borough of Hafnarfjörður and other laws.

Meetings

Council meetings are held every other Wednesday at 2 p.m. The meetings are held in the council chamber at Hafnarborg. Council meetings are open to the public and are live-streamed. The minutes of the council meetings are published online after the meeting.
