A discount is applied to the standard accommodation rate for each child beyond one. The youngest sibling is charged the full rate, but a discount is provided.

Payment is made on the last working day of each month, and is made retrospectively for the preceding month. Payment is made for eleven months of the year.

You must apply for the additional subsidy and submit all required documents by the 20th of the month before the additional subsidy is to commence. Please note that discounts and additional subsidies are not retroactive and will therefore take effect from the next month after the application has been approved.

For B-space accommodation, 25% of the aforementioned percentage of the street construction fee and 25% of the aforementioned amount of the building rights fee shall be paid.

For car parks, 25% of the above-mentioned rate of the street construction fee shall be paid.

The plot price under this by-law shall be updated on the 1st day of each month in accordance with changes in the construction index. This applies to both components of the plot price: the street construction charge and the building rights charge.

The plot price at the time of plot allocation is based on the Statistics Bureau's price index, plus the street construction fee applicable on the allocation date, which is the date of the municipal council meeting.

The town council may, when allocating plots, decide to invite tenders, where the plot price in accordance with this by-law is the minimum price.

The plot price at allocation is based on the building cost index in force on the date of the town council meeting at which the allocation is made.

If a change to the local plan is approved at the request of the plot holder, which involves an increase in the building rights on the plot or a change in the type of building (e.g. from a detached house to a semi-detached house or from a terraced house to a block of flats), The City of Hafnarfjörður reserves the right to review the sale price of the building rights on the relevant plot(s), and/or to charge for the increased building rights, taking into account the sale price of comparable building rights on nearby plots. However, a planning change at the request of the plot holder shall never result in a reduction of the sale price of the building rights.

It is permissible to grant a discount on the plot price for environmentally friendly buildings. Such a discount applies solely to the building rights portion of the plot price. It is not permissible to grant any further discount.  road construction levy, as set out in Articles 5 and 6 of the by-law on the road construction levy in the City of Hafnarfjörður.  

Discount on the building permit fee for environmental certification (Svan certification, BREEAM certification or comparable): Detached houses 10% discount on the building permit fee. Terraced houses 7.5% discount on the building permit fee. Multi-family houses 5% discount on the building permit fee.

• The discount on the development charge is calculated based on the plot price as paid at allocation.
• Upon allocation of a plot, the plot holder pays the full price for the plot.
• On the application for a building permit, the landowner must declare their intention to build a certified property; this is a prerequisite for a refund of the building rights fee.
• Upon final inspection, the plot holder who has received environmental certification shall hand the certification over to the City of Hafnarfjörður.
• Once the final certificate of completion has been issued, the discount is paid to the plot holder.

The street construction fee increases or decreases on the 1st of each month, taking into account changes in the construction index and the House Price Index of Statistics Iceland at each time.

There are 10 instalments for property taxes in 2025. The first instalment is on 1 February, and the others are on the 1st of each month until 1 November. In cases where the annual property tax is kr. 25,000 or less, the full amount is collected on the first payment due date of the year, 1 February. The final date for payment is 30 days after the due date.

The water charge is collected with the property taxes.

A usage fee of 40 kr. per measured tonne is levied in accordance with the decision of the Board of Environment and Operations of 5 October 2022.

It is permissible to levy a docking fee of up to five times on ships and boats that have been moored for a long time and have been without a certificate of seaworthiness for at least 6 months.

Passenger ship – cancellation fee

Hafnarfjarðarhöfn accepts passenger ship bookings two years in advance, from the New Year. The following rules apply to the cancellation of passenger ship bookings:

• Cancellation within 12 months of the scheduled arrival time. A cancellation fee of 15% of the dock fees for the booked period of stay.
• Cancellation within 6 months of the scheduled arrival time. A cancellation fee of 30% of the dock fees for the booked period will be charged.
• Cancellation within 72 hours of the scheduled arrival time. A cancellation fee of 100% of the dock fees for the booked period of stay.
• Cancellations due to severe weather conditions are exempt from the 72-hour cancellation fee. No cancellation fee is charged for changes to arrival times, where such requests can be accommodated.

Customs duties are paid on the import, export and intra-Community supply of all goods.

A 50% discount is offered if siblings attend the same course.

The borrower may replace the item with a new copy.

A 30% discount is applied to the price list for the purchase of more than 15 images for book publications and exhibitions.

When the length of the service connection is over 30 metres, an additional charge is calculated separately after the connection has been completed..

Materials and labour are included in the fees.

The water charge is collected with the property taxes.
