Today is the International Day of People with Disabilities.
Our hearts in Hafnarfjörður are decked out in purple today for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The day is on 3 December every year. Today, the spotlight is on the struggle of people with disabilities and their important contribution to society.
The day has been observed since 1992 with the aim of promoting an understanding of the issues affecting disabled people and encouraging support for their dignity, rights and well-being. As well as raising awareness of the benefits that result from the participation of disabled people in all spheres of society – political, social, economic and cultural life.
Yes, we truly have a purple light in our hearts today and look to the importance of being an enlightened society – not just today, but every day.
