HHH – A Queer Meet-up in Hafnarfjörður is now open every Thursday at the youth centre Vitan in the sports hall at Lækjarskóli. The model for HHH is the Queer Youth Centre in
Reykjavík, where meet-ups and group activities have been going better than expected. The meet-up is intended for young people in years 5-10 who identify as queer in some way, are interested in queer concepts, and are passionate about queer issues. Also to attend as a support if they know someone who could benefit from coming.

  • Pupils in Years 5–7 meet on two Thursdays a month from 5 pm to 7 pm.
  • Years 9–10 meet every Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A safe and welcoming environment for our young people

The aim of the work is for the young people to feel safe, welcome and to have the opportunity to flourish. The work is based largely on peer education, and the young people will be tasked with raising awareness of issues affecting LGBTQ+ youth and celebrating diversity in Hafnarfjörður. On Thursday, 23rd February, there will be an open house and information session for parents, guardians, family members, and anyone who wants to learn about the activities of HHH. At 17:00, the house opens and you will be able to look around the premises, take part in some light games and have a chat with the staff. The organisation Samtökin 78 will be there at 18:00 with an education session on LGBTQ+ issues for young people, which everyone can benefit from.
