Let's enjoy growing our own vegetables this summer!

The City of Hafnarfjörður's community gardens will be open at Víðistaðir and Öldugata this summer. The plots will be ploughed and allocation will begin at the end of May. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals and families to grow their own vegetables. Registration opens on Wednesday, 13th May.

Registration is open from 13 May – Registration takes place here but it is also possible to apply through My pages .You must bring proof of payment to the office of the Hafnarfjörður Work School and select a plot. The Vinnuskóli Hafnarfjarðar offices are located at Suðurgata 14 and are open every weekday between 8 am and 4 pm. You can also contact the office staff by telephone on 565-1899 and by email at: vinnuskoli@hafnarfjordur.is

Costs kept to a minimum

The cost of the gardens is kept to an absolute minimum, and the reduction from 5,000.- kr to 1,500.- kr that took place last year will remain in place. For the summer of 2020, one plot will therefore cost kr 1,500 and two plots kr 2,500. As with last year, this does not include vegetables or other materials, but access to water and basic tools will be provided. This new arrangement is proving successful, as people have different preferences for what they want to plant, both in terms of types and quantities. In the summer of 2019, demand outstripped the supply of gardens, and in the end, 120 gardens were available for families in Hafnarfjörður, all of which were taken.

Let's create fun, quality time with our own homegrown produce this summer.

As soon as all the formalities have been completed, individuals and families from Hafnarfjörður can start coming to the garden together to grow their own produce. Experience in recent years has shown that growing produce creates enjoyable opportunities for socialising, from choosing vegetables to the harvest.

We encourage everyone who is interested to apply and enjoy growing their own vegetables!
