In the summer of 2022, the nurseries of the City of Hafnarfjörður will be closed for two weeks from 18 July to 1 August. The change in arrangement is in response to a request from the majority of parents and staff, whereas in the summer of 2021 the nursery was open throughout the summer.
All children must take a continuous four-week summer holiday from nursery school.
Children born in 2016, who are starting primary school in the autumn of 2022, will finish their nursery education no later than 30 July 2022. All children must take a continuous four-week summer holiday from nursery. Under the current arrangement, this means that parents can take 2 weeks' holiday before the nursery closes, 2 weeks after it closes, or 1 week on either side of the closure to achieve a total of 4 consecutive weeks' holiday. Parents who choose to take a four-week summer holiday at a different time will not be charged for those weeks, nor for the two weeks the nursery is closed. This effectively cancels the fee for up to six weeks of nursery attendance.

Registration for summer leave is open from 1st March – 30th March 2022.
Registration for the summer holiday is binding, and it is important that all parents submit their registration by 30th March.
Registration for the summer holiday takes place at the relevant nursery school.
The operation of the nurseries is dependent on the number of children at any given time and may therefore be on a modified schedule during the summer holidays when most children are away. Summer staff will be advertised for via the City of Hafnarfjörður's recruitment website. Once the summer holiday registrations have closed, parents will receive further information about the nursery's summer schedule. The merging of groups and playgroups is expected for part of the period.
