Special Olympics Fjardarliðar meet the mayor

The brilliant Fjardarliðar visited the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður today. These Fjardarliðar travelled in March to take part in the Special Olympics. The group's achievement was magnificent.

The brilliant Fjarðarliðar visited the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður today for a reception in their honour and to celebrate their success at the Special Olympics in the United Arab Emirates this March. The group's achievement was magnificent, and it's safe to say the accolades were well-deserved. 

Versatile in a wide range of areas

The members of Fjörður Sports Club are versatile and competed in a variety of sports at the games: swimming, golf, gymnastics and athletics. The swimmers were Bára Sif Ólafsdóttir and Róbert Erwin. Bára Sif won a gold medal in the 100m backstroke and a silver in the 100m freestyle, while Róbert received a bronze in the 100m freestyle. Ásmundur Þór Ásmundsson and Elín Fanney Ólafsdóttir competed in golf. Ásmundur secured a silver medal in the event, and Elín Fanney finished in fourth place, a hair's breadth from the podium. Unnar Ingi Ingólfsson competed in gymnastics and did very well, winning gold in the vault and a bronze medal in the rings. Last but not least, Aníta Ósk Hrafnsdóttir won a gold medal in the shot put, silver in the long jump and silver in the 4x100m relay.
