Improvements and maintenance of the town's open spaces
The fine weather in the autumn months has been used for ongoing improvements and maintenance of open playgrounds within the town. This summer, open playgrounds as well as football pitches at, for example, Drekavelli, Túnhvamm and Lyngbarð were renewed.

The fine weather in the autumn months has been used for ongoing improvements and maintenance of open playgrounds within the town. This summer, open playgrounds as well as football pitches at, for example, Drekavelli, Túnhvamm and Lyngbarð were renewed. More open playgrounds have now been added, including the fields in Ásland by Erlu- and Gauksás, Grænukinn, and the field between Hólabraut and Vallarbraut. The work is being carried out by the City of Hafnarfjörður's Service Centre and contractors. Among the Service Centre's staff at the moment is a strong group of individuals who have come to the country as refugees.

The refurbishment involves replacing or repairing play equipment, adding new items where appropriate, replacing surfacing where needed with artificial grass and rubber mats, and also laying turf. At the same time, efforts are being made to improve access to the pitches.
