Following the authorities' decision on tightened public health measures, which come into effect from midday on 31 July 2020, the City of Hafnarfjörður has reviewed its services in accordance with its contingency plans. The council's services will remain largely unchanged, but working practices will be adapted to the new gathering restrictions.

Staff are encouraged to take good care of their personal hygiene, and managers have reviewed hygiene measures at workplaces. In addition, special guidance has been prepared for staff travelling to work from overseas to reduce the risk of infection.

To protect vulnerable groups, the Department for Family and Children's Affairs has limited the number of visitors to residents as much as possible. Guidance has been issued to staff at workplaces for disabled people and in services for older people. Units will not be closed nor services restricted at this stage, such as in social activities for the elderly and canteens, but the two-metre rule and crowd restrictions will be strictly observed. 

The operations of Hafnarborg, the Museum and Library of Hafnarfjörður, remain largely unchanged, but with social distancing measures and the two-metre rule being observed.

Ásvallalaug and the Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool will be open with restrictions such as It appears in a news article on the website. . The South Bay Pool remains closed due to construction work.

We are on standby and will take appropriate measures in consultation with the Civil Defence and the Chief Medical Officer as necessary.

Alert level due to COVID-19

In light of stricter disease prevention measures ordered by the authorities, which will come into effect at noon on 31 July, the municipality has reviewed its services in accordance with the relevant response plan. The municipality's services remain mostly unchanged, while work procedures will be adjusted to fit the new social distancing limits.

Employees are encouraged to practise personal disease prevention and managers have reviewed protocols in workstations. Furthermore, special guidelines have been prepared for staff members returning to work after trips abroad to minimise the risk of infection.

Visits to residents have been restricted to protect vulnerable groups. Guidelines have been issued to staff in residential care homes for the elderly, as well as to residents in flats and group homes for people with disabilities. Operating units will not be closed nor will services be limited at this time with regard to social activities for the elderly and canteens. However, the 2-metre distancing rule will be in place and restrictions on the number of people will be respected.

The operations of museums and libraries will remain mostly unchanged, except for restrictions on the number of people and the 2-metre rule.

Swimming pools will be open with restrictions. No more than 100 people are allowed in each space at Ásvallalaug and 32 people at Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool The 2-metre rule is mandatory. Suðurbæjarlaug is closed for maintenance. Signs will be put up next to the hot tubs and saunas regarding restrictions on the number of people, and hand sanitiser will be available. Opening hours will remain the same. 

We are on alert and will take the appropriate measures as needed, in co-operation with the civil protection services and the chief epidemiologist.
