Results of the 2018 Gallup service survey

Between 7 November and 2 January 2019, Gallup conducted its annual service survey among the 19 largest municipalities in the country. The survey was based on a stratified random sample of 9,861 individuals, aged 18 and over, drawn from the Gallup and National Register opinion panel. In Hafnarfjörður, 420 individuals responded to the survey. The results were published at a meeting of the town council this morning.

The survey results indicate residents' satisfaction with certain municipal services, regardless of whether they use the service or not.

Opportunities for improvement and strengthening of the council's services

Residents' satisfaction with the municipality of Hafnarfjörður is falling year-on-year, after having made a rather large, significant leap in the last measurements. In 2016, satisfaction was measured at 88%, and in 2017 at 91%. A significant decrease is seen in 6 out of 13 areas this year, concerning facilities for sports activities, the municipality's nursery school service, the quality of the environment in residents' neighbourhoods, cultural affairs, planning, and satisfaction with the municipality as a place to live. The consultancy firm Capacent has recently been working on a public administration review for the City of Hafnarfjörður, where the main objective is to find ways to improve and make the municipality's services more efficient. As part of this, an open public meeting was held at the end of last year on the town's services, and suggestions were also invited via a feedback portal on the strengths and weaknesses of the council's services. Capacent is putting the finishing touches to this work and will present proposals for improvements in the coming days.
