Road closure – New main sewer near Hlíðarberg

A new main sewer for the town's drainage system will be laid from a manhole in Klettahlíð, alongside Hlíðarberg and to a manhole in Stekkjartorg. Due to this, Hlíðarberg at Stekkjartorg will be partially closed from 30 July to 15 October 2024. A diversion will be in place at the construction site for the time being, but the road will be closed at a later date, which will be announced separately closer to the time. Phase 1 has now begun, and residents in Mosahlíðin will receive a letter with more detailed information about the works today.

Overview

The work will be carried out in phases from Stekkjartorg to Kletthlíð and are Completion scheduled for 15 October 2024.

To further minimise disruption, the rock in the trench is to be loosened by blasting (see description from Borgarvirki), and Borgarvirki will carry out the blasting for the project's main contractor, Stjörnugarðar ehf. The worksite will be fenced off at each location, and traffic will be diverted past the site using fencing and signage. Significant traffic of earthmoving vehicles to and from the site is to be expected.

Residents' suggestions and/or comments

During the construction, it is clear that neighbours and road users will be subject to disruption, due to heavy goods vehicles, altered traffic routes, noise, explosions and potential dust. Hafnarfjörður has high expectations of the contractor to carry out the work professionally and apologises in advance for any inconvenience residents may experience as a result of the works. Should residents have any suggestions or comments regarding the project, these should be directed to the contractor. However, a copy of all correspondence should always be sent to the undersigned, who are acting as the supervisors on behalf of the City of Hafnarfjörður.
