Samfés is moving to Hafnarfjörður
Samfés has put down roots in the old educational centre by the stream. This national association of youth clubs and youth centres will be based there for the next two years. Welcome to the beautiful fjordlands.
Samfés's strong work at Lækinn
„We're home,“ said Valgeir Þór Jakobsson, managing director of Samfés., the national association of youth clubs and centres, when it signed a lease agreement for the operation with the City of Hafnarfjörður. Samfés began its operations in Hafnarfjörður just over 40 years ago. This youth organisation has now settled into the old Menntasetrið building by the Lækinn and will be there for the next two years.
Árný Steindóra Steindórsdóttir, Director of the Education and Public Health Department of Hafnarfjörður Municipality, says that the agreement creates a closer connection between the activities of Samfés and the youth centre, as well as the municipality's other youth and leisure activities.
„We see an opportunity for collaboration and synergy in that area,“ she says, and wishes them congratulations on their new facility.
Samfés promotes the professional development of staff and strengthens the participation of children and young people in social activities. The organisation will use the facilities at the Innovation Centre for its day-to-day operations, meetings, conferences and other projects that are consistent with its role.
Valgeir describes how Samfés holds events for all young people in the country. „But also events for the staff of youth clubs and community centres.“ Staff days are also held for part-time staff so that they learn about the work of the youth clubs and its core values.
„So, we are in the community centre's lobbying for our interests,“ says Valgeir. The work is strong and he looks forward to a good time in this historic and beautiful building of ours by the stream.
